Michele Y. Washington

Curious Story Lab

Michele Y. Washington is a designer, researcher, black memory worker, podcaster, and writer. Michele is the host and founder of Curious Story Lab. She writes about architecture, design, food and pop culture. Her writings have been featured in The Black Experience in Design, Wonder City of the World: Travel Posters of New York City, InQue Magazine, Everlasting Plastics: Evoking Objects of Change, Feminists Media Histories: An International Journal, Architectural Record and America I Am Passin it Down Cookbook. She previously taught in the Graduate Exhibition and Experience Design Program at the Fashion Institute of Technology, CUNY, and Pratt Institute.

Michele serves on the BlackSpace Urbanists Collective board and the advisory boards for the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Indigo Arts Alliance, and the Poster House Museum. In her free time, she loves making collages, knitting quirky objects, and screen printing.

He has worked with major brands like Toyota, Coca-Cola, and AT&T, and played a pioneering role in wearable technology by developing one of the first Apple Watch apps. His artistic impact extends into film and merchandising, collaborating with Spike Lee on projects like Chiraq and Two Fists Up, and earning accolades such as a Gold Addy and recognition in Advertising Age’s 40-under-40. A milestone in his career is his inclusion in The Smithsonian’s American Enterprise exhibition, solidifying his influence on American culture and design.
